Who are the tech partners of the champI4.0ns project?

In our series “Champs behind champI4.0ns” we introduce the tech partners of Wood K plus.

Wood K plus is an Austrian research institution for wood and renewable resources. Its core competencies lie in materials research and process technology along the entire value chain – from raw materials to the finished product. In doing so, they develop methods as well as basic principles and conduct applied research at the interface between business and science. Research questions are addressed to enable resource-efficient management in the circular bioeconomy.

Wood K plus integrates complementary technologies such as digitization and artificial intelligence, building the bridge between the analog and digital worlds in the bioeconomy.

Employees from the“Wood-based materials and digital transformation” and“Market analysis and innovation research” teams are part of champI4.0ns. Wood K plus has decided to become part of the champI4.0ns project to actively contribute to preparing the wood industry for the future. The wood industry is in a state of upheaval and must meet the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0 in order to remain competitive.
Wood K plus sees the special feature of champI4.0ns in the way the project is interdisciplinary and is being carried out by a consortium of different partners from research, industry and SMEs. This makes it possible to use a wide range of expertise and know-how to develop the best possible solutions.

Wood K plus is involved in the implementation of the four use cases and the work package “Sustainability and Innovation”.

Here, employees contribute their expertise in wood research and development, data collection, multivariate process analysis and modeling, image processing, and eco-efficiency analyses for new technical developments.

With champI4.0ns they want to develop new research findings and achieve the successful implementation of innovative technologies in the wood industry, together with the consortium. By creating best practice examples in the use cases, Wood K plus aims to demonstrate concrete applicable methods from the field of digitalization of the entire wood industry, beyond champI4.0ns.

Wood K plus wants to support the traditional Austrian wood industry in striving for and implementing a sustainable digital transformation.
